Engineering Technology

Graphics & Web Design  Grades 9-12 (1 semester)

In this course students will get a taste of Photoshop, graphic design, website design, and business education as they complete online tutorials to learn new software.  The semester will culminate with students creating their own conceptual business complete with website, business plan, logo, t-shirt and more.

Civil Engineering  Grades 9-12 (1 semester)
Shop Fee:  $25

Students design and build structures while learning woodworking techniques in the woodshop.  Students will learn safety and operations on an array of machinery and hand tools while completing an individual take home woodworking project.  Students will then learn about engineering by utilizing the engineering design process to solve a complex design problem in teams where they will design, build, and present a working prototype.  The master project for civil engineering will be an automated draw bridge.

Electrical Engineering Grades 9-12 (1 semester)
Shop Fee:  $25

Students design and build electrical circuits while also learning woodworking techniques and residential wiring in the shop.  Students will learn safety and operations on an array of machinery and hand tools while completing several residential wiring circuits culminating in a 3-way light switch.  Students will then learn about engineering by utilizing the engineering design process to solve a complex design problem in teams where they will design, build, and present a working prototype.  The master project for electrical engineering will be a working hovercraft.

Mechanical Engineering  Grades 9-12 (1 semester)
Shop Fee:  $25

Students design and manufacture pieces of machinery while learning welding and metalworking techniques in the metal shop.  Students will learn safety and operations on an array of machinery and pneumatic tools while completing an individual take home project.  Students will then learn about engineering by utilizing the engineering design process to solve a complex design problem in teams where they will design, build, and present a working prototype.  The master project for mechanical engineering will be an automated can crusher system.

Super Mileage Vehicle  Grades 9-12
Prerequisite- 1 Engineering Course
Shop Fee:  $25

This is a course for students that want the challenge of designing and building a fuel efficient vehicle.  During this course the students will use teamwork and ingenuity to modify, design, and fabricate a high mileage vehicle that will compete in the spring at Brainerd International Raceway.  Some of the units covered in this course will include: Small Gas Engines, Mechanical Power, Energy Conservation, Aerodynamics, and Metals Fabrication.  This is a student driven class where you get to engineer, design, and fabricate competitive cars.

CAD Drafting & Architectural Design  Grades 9-12 (1 semester)

This is a MUST HAVE course for anyone who is interested in the engineering and design fields.  Students will learn how to use the latest versions of Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit; which are the industry standard design software. Before anything is built it must first be engineered and designed using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting).  In addition to computer drafting students will complete a traditional hand drafting project and one model building project.  Having your own flash drive is highly recommended for this class.

Women in Engineering  Grades 9-12 (1 semester)
Prerequisite- For Female Students
Shop Fee:  $25

This is a semester long course for female students.  Students design and build structures while learning woodworking techniques in the woodshop.  Students will learn safety and operations on an array of machinery and hand tools while completing an individual woodworking project.  Students will then learn about engineering by utilizing the engineering design process to solve a complex design problem in teams where they will design, build, and present a working prototype.
